How much does a website cost in Romania in 2026?

What a business website costs in Romania in 2026: published agency price ranges, yearly running costs, 21% VAT, and what to check in a quote.

by Bogdan CărbunePublished 5 min readCitește în română

The short answer: in 2026, a business website built by a Romanian company typically costs 400 to 5,000 EUR excluding VAT, depending on how original the design is and what it has to do. On top of that you pay for a domain and hosting every year, and for maintenance if you want someone keeping it up to date. Below are the price ranges Romanian agencies publish, with sources, the running costs that rarely appear in a quote, and a checklist for comparing offers.

This guide is for two kinds of readers: businesses in Romania, and companies abroad considering a Romanian studio. The numbers are the same; the questions you should ask differ slightly, and both are covered.

Published price ranges in Romania (2026)

There are no official statistics on website prices in Romania. The best public data comes from agencies that publish their rates. These are from 2026 price guides by two Romanian agencies, excluding VAT:

Website type Published range Typically includes Timeline
Theme-based business site (5-8 pages or sections) 400-2,500 EUR adapted theme, contact form, basic SEO 1-4 weeks
Custom-designed site (8-15 pages) 2,500-5,000 EUR original design, technical SEO, standard integrations 2-6 weeks
Complex site (15+ pages, multilingual, quote calculator) 5,000-10,000 EUR animation, blog, several languages, custom features 4-8 weeks
Site with user accounts or a web app 2,500-8,000+ EUR (Biroul de IT), 10,000+ EUR (Pronet) login, client area, CRM integration 6 weeks to 6 months

What drives the price

  1. Design. Adapting a theme is cheap. A design drawn from scratch for your brand costs several times more, because every page is designed, approved and then built.
  2. Features. A contact form is trivial. Online booking, a price calculator, client accounts or payments are each a small project of their own.
  3. Integrations. Connecting to a CRM, invoicing software, a courier or an ERP means testing both sides.
  4. Languages. Every extra language means translated, reviewed and separately optimized pages.
  5. Content. If the agency writes copy and shoots photos, you pay for that too.
  6. AI features. An assistant that answers from your documents, or a form that qualifies leads automatically, adds build time and a monthly cost for the AI service.

Running costs that rarely appear in the quote

  • Domain. A .ro domain costs 12 EUR plus VAT per year directly from RoTLD; registrars set their own prices. Make sure it is registered to your company, not the agency.
  • Hosting. From a few euros to a few dozen euros a month, depending on traffic and stack.
  • Maintenance. Security updates, backups, small edits. Romanian agencies usually publish 30 to 150 EUR a month.
  • Licences. Premium themes and plugins renew yearly. Ask which ones the site uses and whose name they are in.
  • Business email. A separate service with its own subscription.
  • Privacy and cookies. Your privacy policy and cookie banner must match what the site actually uses. This is GDPR territory, wherever you are in the EU.
  • VAT. Romania's standard rate is 21% since 1 August 2025. A 2,000 EUR site plus VAT costs a Romanian business 2,420 EUR. Cross-border B2B purchases inside the EU usually fall under reverse charge instead.

If you are hiring from abroad

Romania has a large software industry and rates below Western Europe, which is why many companies look here. What to check beyond price:

  • Ownership. The code, the domain, the hosting account and any licences should end up in your name after payment.
  • Contract and invoicing. A Romanian SRL invoices like any EU company. Ask how VAT will be handled for your country.
  • Communication. Who you talk to, in what language, and how often you see progress.
  • After launch. What the warranty covers, for how long, and what changes cost later.

How to read a quote before you sign

  1. Is the price with or without VAT?
  2. Who owns the domain, hosting and code after payment?
  3. What does "revisions included" mean? How many rounds, on what. Most disputes start here.
  4. What technical SEO is included? At minimum: titles and descriptions on every page, a sitemap, good mobile speed, structured data for your business.
  5. What happens after launch? Bug warranty, for how long, and the price of anything extra.
  6. Who writes the copy and who supplies the photos?
  7. Can I edit the texts myself? And how.

If two quotes answer all seven clearly, you can compare their prices. If not, you are comparing different things.

When a DIY builder is enough

If you only need a page saying what you do, where you are and how to reach you, a website builder or WordPress with a ready theme is a fine choice. It stops being enough when you need to rank in Google against competitors, connect forms to other systems, look like your brand rather than a template, or when you simply do not have the time.

How we work

Promptify is a Romanian studio that builds websites, online stores, web platforms and mobile apps, and runs several products of its own (for example autostudio.one and the Food AI app). We do not publish a fixed price, because a five-page site can cost very different amounts depending on what it has to do. Frequently asked questions

How much does a simple business website cost in Romania?

Romanian agencies that publish their prices start at around 400 EUR for a few-section site built on a theme and go to 2,500-5,000 EUR for an original design, excluding VAT. Domain and hosting are paid every year on top.

Do Romanian website quotes include VAT?

Usually not. Business quotes are normally net of VAT, and the standard Romanian rate has been 21% since 1 August 2025. If you are a VAT-registered business in another EU country buying from a Romanian company, the reverse-charge rules usually apply instead, so check with your accountant.

Is it cheaper to hire a Romanian studio than a Western European agency?

Often, yes, because hourly rates in Eastern Europe are lower. The useful question is not the rate but what is included: who owns the code and the domain, what support you get after launch, and whether the team communicates well in your language and time zone.

How long does a business website take to build?

Published agency timelines in Romania range from 1 to 6 weeks for a business website, depending on how custom the design is. Content (texts and photos) is the most common cause of delays.
